New Features!

We've included several new features in this release, so we'd like to run through the details of each feature so that you can begin using them on your own site.

Socialize Content Blocks

Do you Twitter? Do you Facebook? If not, you really should. We can help! Even if you aren't taking advantage of the benefits of social media, your customers are. So, we have created a new type of content block which will allow your users to spread the word about your site. By adding the new Socialize content block to the bottom of articles or even to the footer of your site, you can allow your site's visitors to:

  • Share this page on Twitter
  • Share this page on Facebook
  • Share this page on Digg.com
  • Bookmark this page on Del.icio.us
  • Share this page on StumbleUpon
  • Share this page on LinkedIn
  • Email this page
  • Print this page
  • Save this page as a PDF

For screenshots and full instructions, see our previous blog post about the Socialize Content Blocks.

Mobile Improvements

As opportunities arise to create mobile versions of our customer's sites, improvements are rolled out to help us offer a more complete mobile solution. In this release we have addressed two issues. First, we created server-side device detection, which forwards your site's visitor to the appropriate mobile version of the site without forcing them to wait for a page load before the redirect happens. Also, we have introduced a lighter version of WebPress which is used for mobile sites. We were able to reduce every page load by a total of 170kb. That might seem like very little, however on a 2G connection such as AT&T "Edge", this is the difference between a 10-15 second page load and a 2-4 second page load. If you are interested in offering a mobile version of your website, please contact our sales team.

Article Syndication Expiration

One of the more recent requests from our customers was to allow for the syndication of particular articles to expire. For example, if you have an article which has details about an event and includes a registration form, you can limit the availability of this article in your RSS feed after the event date. In order to use this feature, see the Accessibility settings of each Article. You can now choose a specific date (MM/DD/YY) for removal from the syndication feed or, if you would rather the article stay in syndication as long as the article exists, you can stick with the default option of "until the cows come home". Here's a screenshot of the new feature:

E-commerce SEO Updates

As we make SEO improvements to WebPress, we are also making improvements to several different modules. Included in this release is the ability to enable some significant SEO features within the E-commerce module including:

  • Ability to enter meta data per product:
    • Description
    • Keywords
  • Ability to specify Alt values for all product photos (used for search engine optimization as well as accessibility)
  • Clean URL's (ie. - yourdomain.com/ecommerce.php/item/id/26 will now become yourdomain.com/item/26/Name-of-Product-Here)

If you are interested in enabling these features for your site, please contact us.

Custom Shipping Options

Another popular request in the past couple of months has been the ability to assign custom shipping options on a product level within the WebPress Ecommerce module. We've done just that! Within the Ecommerce module's Shipping & Handling settings you'll find a new option called "Custom Shipping". Simply assign a name and shipping charge to enable a new Custom Shipping method and you're ready to start attaching the Custom Shipping to individual products. See the screenshots below:

Forms to PDF

We now offer PDF form submissions! Using our familiar form processor we can now not only submit your data to a plain text email, but we can also have the data fill a PDF document. Whether you provide the PDF document or if we build it for you, form submissions can now submit directly to a PDF document which is then downloadable via your own site. One example of use would be a warranty registration form. Onine submissions can be sent to you (and the customer) using your already existing paper form with your logo and custom styling. For more information about this feature, please contact our sales team.

Age Verification Content Blocks

In addition to the Socialize content block type, we have introduced the Age Verification content block. This specialized content block allows your site to request the user verify that they are of a minimum age you have specified before they proceed to the content of the site. If the user closes their browser or the current browsing session remains inactive for a specified time, they will be prompted for their age again. If you have age senstivie content, such as alcoholic beverages for sale or alcoholic recipes, this content block should meet requirements placed upon you by both online credit card processors and local/state legislation. This content block type is available only by request due to the custom nature of the needs of your site. If you would like to take advantage of this cotent block type, please contact our sales team.
