Reading First
 

At Greene County Tech Primary School, we have a Comprehensive Literacy Curriculum that implements the five essential elements of reading.  Scientifically Based Reading Research has indicated that all reading curriculum must include explicit instruction in the following five areas:

 

v      Phonemic Awareness

v      Phonics

v      Comprehension

v      Fluency

v      Vocabulary

 

Explicit instruction in the five essential elements is provided through familiar reading, shared reading, Phonetic Connections Phonics program, read alouds, small group reading and small group writing.
